About Me

My Background

My name is Christine Sit, and I am a recent graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Environment and Sustainability. I focused my studies on Ecosystem Ecology and Soil Science, but I also have a passion for culture and language. I studied on three different continents (North America, Europe, and Asia), where I learned about their environments, languages, and societies. These experiences frame my own intersectional environmentalism.

To me, intersectional environmentalism is a form of environmentalism that acknowledges and empowers marginalized voices. It speaks of the significance of identity and community, tying them to the environment, to nature. It is the recognition that injustices against marginalized communities are also injustices to the Earth.

What I Stand For

So, what do I stand for?
I stand for communities who are trying or have given up on being heard. I stand for the disappearing natural areas of the Earth. I stand for cross-cultural communication and understanding. And lastly, I stand for those who are no longer able to stand for themselves.

What Science Means to Me

Science isn’t this complex thing only available for the benefit and enjoyment of the upper echelons of society. Instead, it is attempts and efforts made to better understand the world. Yes, science is experiments done in a lab, but it’s also gardening. It’s stargazing and cooking and talking. It is integral to everything we do, and our understanding of it is constantly evolving.

I believe that everyone should have access to museums, national and state parks, and the results of research. In science, there is something for everyone, and I believe that with the right framing and accessibility efforts, it can excite and empower anyone. And so, I am here to contribute my own abilities to the growing community of science communication.

My Goals

Accessible Science

As a lifelong communicator, I aim to make science more accessible. In my blog, The More You Know”, I provide digestible and easy to understand explanations of various environmental topics of interest (requests are welcome, but I cannot guarantee I will cover every request). Most of these posts are under 300 words, but more complex topics may require more.

A Glimpse into the Life Of

As the heading suggests, I will be sharing a glimpse into my current experiences, also on my blog page. I will write periodic updates about my experiences as an ecologist. I will share what I have learned and offer my own insight into the environmental field.
